Stearman Cup: Goldstone v St. Nicholas

On Monday 25th our boys Yellow team played the next round of the Stearman cup vs St. Nicolas, after beating Aldrington. The boys played really well on a very bobbly pitch. They dominated most of the game but St. Nicolas caused problems when they attacked. Ben put us in the lead, after following up the rebound from the shot before. St Nicolas pulled one back. The game looked as it might go to penalties again. Xavier's magic put us in the lead with minutes to spare.

We are now in the semi-final.

Roxboro Cup: Goldstone v Peter Gladwin

On Friday 22nd, our girls' team played in the Roxobro 7 a-side Cup vs Peter Gladwin. We only had 7 players for the game which meant no subs. Gladwin went 1-0 up with in the first 5 minutes. The girls didn't give up and Coco pulled us back. Credit to Peter Gladwin's coach who took a player off when one of ours had to come off injured. Lucky for both teams we managed to get 7 players back on for each team. Jasmine was eager to score and scored a distances shot that went over the keeper. We are now into the next round - Quarter Finals.

After a half time team talk, Goldstone approached the second half with more confidence and a desire to increase their lead, very quickly it was 2 - 0 and their goal keeper made some phenomenal saves to keep it that way. However, in the final five minutes an excellent strike from 20 yards gave Ben his hat-trick and made the final score 3 - 0.

QuadKids County Athletics Final

Goldstone Primary School's Year 5/6 Athletes Triumph at County Quad Kids Athletics Event

Date: June 29, 2023

Our Year 5/6 athletic team achieved a resounding victory (bagging gold medals) at the highly anticipated county Quad Kids athletics event held at the K2 in Crawley today. Demonstrating exceptional talent and unwavering determination, the young athletes left onlookers in awe as they dominated the competition (of 11 other schools) across various disciplines.

With teams from schools across the county converging at the prestigious venue, Goldstone stood out with their professional performances and team spirit. The Quad Kids format, which features four events—75m sprint, 600m run, vortex throw, and long jump—required them to showcase their versatility and all-round athletic abilities, which they did with aplomb.

Huge thanks to Mr Hurley, Mx Leon-Cutler and Kylie Grice for their encouragement and training in the build-up to and also during the event!

Sportscool Cup: Semi-final Downs Junior vs Goldstone

On a very warm Friday the 23rd of June of Year 5/6 girls team travelled to Manor Gym to play in the Sportscool Cup semi-final. We were playing against a very strong team from Downs Juniors; a team we've yet to win against this season. We knew it would be a tough game and the heat wasn't going to help. A few tactial line-up changes from the first whistle made a big difference and at half time it was 2-1 courtesty of a stunning volley from Beau and a confident close-range strike from Rosie. Our shot-stopper supreme, Molly, made some fantastic saves which made it difficult for Downs Juniors to score. The second half saw Beth find the back of the net twice with two fantastic strikes. Final score 4 - 1

Player of the match goes to Bea for a truly sensational perfectly-timed tackle to prevent a goal just before the half time whistle.

Withdean Athletics

On Thursday the 22nd of June, a group of athletes from Year 4, 5 and 6 travelled to Withdean Stadium to take part in the Brighton and Hove Schools Athletics competition. 24 schools took part with a total of 963 athletes. The sun was shining and there was a tension in the air, could we retain our title of Leaders of the Red Division? Every single runner, jumper and thrower did us proud and not only did we bring the Red Division trophy back home, but also the Track Trophy and the Field Trophy!

Squires - The Sporting Superstar!

Thomas Squires, in Year 6, has had an incredible time playing football recently. He has been doing some amazing work with Brighton & Hove Albion in the Community. For the past few years he has been working hard on the development pathways, which are run by the England FA Para Football. The programme, aimed at a variety of disability classifications, effectively takes young players from the local development hubs, through regionals and ultimately leading to players representing England.

Also, as a once in a lifetime treat from Albion in the Community, he was invited to play on the pitch at the AMEX on the 26th of May!

A HUGE congratulations to Thomas on his success with the Para Football Team!

Primary Stars U11's Girls National Finals at Elland Road

On a freezing cold day at Elland Road in Leeds, our under 11's girls team took on the tremendous challenge of taking part in the National Finals. They would be competing against 19 of the best teams in England.

Our first group game was against Burton Albion who played incredibly well but unfortunately for them, Willow found the back of the net twice making the final score 2 - 0 to Brighton and Hove Albion.

The next group game was against Bolton Wanderers, once again Brighton and Hove Albion won 2 - 0 courtesy of goals from Josie and Beth.

Our third group game was against  Queens Park Rangers, we managed to hit pretty much every part of the woodwork, but just couldn't find the back of the net. Final score: 0 - 0

The last match of the group stages was against AFC Wimbledon, an early own-goal from us put us behind, but the team kept their heads up and scored two amazing goals courtesty of Willow and Josie resulting in a 2 - 1 victory.

We finished top of our group with a whopping 10 points!

The semi-final saw us playing a very skilled Wigan Athletic, but some superb marking from Bea and Beth meant they were unable to find thier stride; this combined with two beautiful strikes from Beau saw us marching in to the final via a 2 - 0 win.

Finally, the moment we'd all been dreaming of, we reached the final. Between us and the trophy stood one very talented Manchester United team. We knew the top goal scorer of the competition so far was on their team, so it would definitely be a challenge. However, our defenders were impeccable and Beau managed to find the back of the net meaning the final score was 1 - 0 to the mighty GOLDSTONE.

They are now the Under 11 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!

Year 5/6 Boys Cricket Competition

On a beautiful June day at Preston Park velodrome, the Year 5 and 6 boys competed in the Brighton and Hove Dynamos School’s Countdown Cricket competition. As gentle applause rippled across the grass, the main sound to be heard was the clatter of wickets as Goldstone’s devastating bowling attack showed no mercy. Once at the wicket, the brutal attack continued in a manner so devastating that air traffic controllers at Gatwick were concerned for low-flying planes. As old Father Time ticked on, it was clear that only one team was going to win the tournament. Goldstone’s gladiators did just this with a huge win against Downs Junior in the final. They will now progress the the regional final and perhaps even have their names inscribed on the honours board at Lord’s one day in the future. The Champagne Moment of the day was won by Alf Osbourne for his stunning caught and bowled wicket versus St Martin’s, but it was a magnificent all round team performance. TEAM:

Goldstone Primary representing Albion at national Premier League tournament final

Goldstone Primary School will be flying the flag for Sussex at the Premier League Primary Stars U11 National Girls Football Tournament in June.

After successfully making it through the regional finals, the Hove-based primary school will be travelling up to Leeds to represent the Albion in the national final.

The girls will have the chance to play on a Premier League pitch, with the tournament taking place at Leeds United’s Elland Road.

There were 10 regional finals across the country, with hundreds of young people battling it out for a place in the national final, and Goldstone Primary were one of just 20 schools to make it through to the main event next month.

In the group stages of the final they will be facing off against schools representing QPR, Burton Albion, AFC Wimbledon, and Bolton Wanderers.

The U11 National Girls Football Tournament is one of the competition elements of the Premier League Primary Stars programme.

.The girls from Goldstone Primary are going to have an unforgettable experience up in Leeds and we wish them all the best of luck.

Launched in 2017 and available to every primary school in England and Wales, Premier League Primary Stars uses the appeal of football to help children to be active and develop essential life skills.

Premier League Head of Community, Nick Perchard, said: “The Premier League Primary Stars U11 National Girls Football Tournament creates an amazing opportunity for girls from across England and Wales to come together and represent their professional football clubs.

“The regional events help to get more girls into football and bring young people together from diverse backgrounds.”

Brighton & Hove Girls' School Team = National Champions

Bea Wright in Year 6 had an amazing weekend! She was instrumental in winning the National Cup for the Brighton & Hove District U11 Girls School Team. She played most of the game at Stoke City against Bootle's Schools Team. She marked their creative winger out of the game in a strong, disciplined performance. The game finished 1-1 and went to penalties... At this point most of the Year 6 teachers were glued to East Sussex Football Association's YouTube channel and screaming with every save. Bootle missed their first, but Brighton scored. Would this be a walk in the park? Of course not, with one penalty left for each team it was a 1-1 penalty tie. Would it go to sudden death? A great save from the Brighton keeper meant that the pressure was on the last penalty taker... Up walked Bea. Calm and confident she took the perfect penalty, hitting the back of the net with ease. She smashed it!

National Champion.

We are all incredibly proud. Well done Bea!

Group Games

Our first match was againt the best Primary team from Bournemouth - it was a fantastic match to watch with both teams trying really hard but not able to find the goal. Final score 0 - 0

The second game of the tournament saw us facing Crawley Town, it didn't take long for Goldstone to find their form and they secured a 2 - 0 (Beau x 2) victory.

Just before lunch we played Southampton, this was by far the most physical game of the day, but despite this our team kept their composure and found the back of the net to win 1 - 0 (Josie). This win meant that we were top of the leaderboard going into the lunch time break.

During lunch our team were all able to have their photo taken with the Premier League trophy - a brilliant opportunity that I'm sure they won't be forgetting any time soon.

After lunch we took on Portsmouth, this match was a real nail-biter; we managed to hit every part of the woodwork but due to their amazing keeper we just couldn't find the back of the net. Despite a fantastic game from Goldstone the match ended 0 - 0.

Our final group game was against Reading and we knew we needed a win to ensure we finsihed top of the table. Both teams played incredibly well but Betty managed to find the back of the net towards the end of match. Final score: 1 - 0.

Goldstone's excellent performance meant they finished top of the table with 11 points, two teams came 2nd with 10 points but based on goal difference we were going to be re-playing Southampton in the final.

Final
The final started incredibly well with Betty finding the back of the net. From this point Goldstone dominated control of the ball. Unfortunatley a last-minute corner allowed Southampton to eqaulise due to an own goal.

Extra-Time
The ref announced 3 minutes of extra time, shortly after this my fitness watch notified me that my heart rate was higher than normal and perhaps I should take a rest... Both teams played well but three minutes was sadly not quite long enough for either to find a goal. On to penalities we went!

Penalties
A brave Bea decided to go in goal for Goldstone and Beth, Beau and Willow were ready to step up to the spot.

Southampton 1: GOAL
Beth: A brilliant strike = GOAL
Southampton 2 = GOAL
Beau = Zero hestiation = GOAL
Southmpton 3 = MISS due to an oustanding save from Bea
Willow = All the pressure. All the courage. A perfect strike. GOAL.

Final Score: 1 - 1 (Pens 3 - 2)

Our girls' team will now be travelling to Elland Road Stadium in Leeds in June, to represent Goldstone, Brighton, East Susses and all of the South East!

Brighton & Hove U11's Boys' League: Game 4

On Friday the 26th of November our Year 6 boys' A team played against Cottesmore Primary School in the Brighton and Hove League.

It was an incredibly tesnse match, if not for the players, for Mx Leon-Cuter at least! 1000+ steps just pacing the sideline. Goldstone scored the first goal but Cottesmore quickly equalised. The equaliser was swiftly followed by a second goal. At half time it was 2-1 to Cottesmore. Goldstone kept their heads held high and fought hard to score a second goal at the beginning of the second half. Despite lots of chances at both ends it remained 2-2 for most of the second half. Goldstone defended with all their might. A free kick right near the end of the game allowed us to win 3 - 2!
