Attendance
Most parents want their child(ren) to get on well in life. Children only get one chance at school, and their chance of a successful future may be affected by not attending school regularly. Poor attendees may not be able to keep up with school work or miss out on parts of the curriculum. This can affect their rate of progress and overall level of attainment. It’s not only the academic work; missing out on the social side of school life can affect children’s ability to make and keep friendships. Setting good attendance patterns from an early age will also help children later on at secondary school. Being on time is also vital. Arriving late at school can be very disruptive for the late child, the teacher and other children in the class.
Governors and staff fully appreciate the challenges of absence from learning, for both the school and for families. There is a clear link between children who miss school and the progress that they make.

Term Time Holiday
There is no entitlement to take a child out of school for a family holiday. Absence during term time is discretionary and not an automatic entitlement. Any request for absence during term time must be exceptional and can only be authorised by the Headteacher. If you must take your child out of school for any period of time during term time, you must complete the Withdrawel from Learning form a minimum of twp prior to the first day of absence. Holiday prices and the fact that parents have booked a holiday before checking with the school are not special reasons. Absence for a family holiday can result in pupils with poor attendance becoming persistent absentees.

School Staff and their role in attendance
The school's attendance officer, Miss Lynn and the designated safeguarding officer, Miss Gibbs, work together to assist families in improving pupil attendance at school. Close monitoring of attendance will be undertaken by Miss Lynn, Miss Gibbs and the Headteacher. When a child's attendance is a cause for concern, the school staff will contact parents/carers and work alongside families to find strategies to improve attendance at school.
The Law and Fixed Penalty Notices
All children of compulsory school age are required to receive an education. As parents/carers you are responsible for ensuring your child receives an education. You risk criminal prosecution if your child fails to attend regularly, and punctually, at the school where s/he is registered. Prosecutions may result in fines of up to £2,500 and/or the possibility of a three months imprisonment. Courts may at their discretion impose a parenting order or direct the LEA to apply for an Education Supervision Order which puts a child of compulsory school age, who is not being properly educated under Local Education Authority supervision.
Reporting Absence

But what if my child is ill?
Of course children are ill on occasions and when this is the case we readily accept that being at home is the best place to be.
Here is a list of common childhood ailments and guidance from the NHS on what to do.
Children can’t help being ill and as a school we want all our children to be well and healthy to able to learn happily and confidently when they are here. However this traffic light system is a really useful guide to help you to decide when to send your child to school and when to keep them at home.

RED
STAY AT HOME
Raised temperature (of over 37.5)
Rashes can be the first sign of many infectious illnesses such as chickenpox and measles. If your child has a rash, check with your GP before sending them to school.
Vomiting and diarrhoea. Children can return to school after 48 hours.
AMBER
TAKE ADVICE
Headaches. A child with a minor headache does not usually need to be kept off school.
If the headache is more severe or is accompanied by other symptoms such as raised temperature or drowsiness, then keep your child at home and consult your GP
