Preparation for Adulthood

We are very excited to be working towards achieving an accreditation for our 'Preparation for Adulthood' program. We are working towards gaining the 'Quality in Careers Standard' through Investor In Careers.

Our vision is to provide all pupils with a personalised pathway to their future, through a programme that reflects the broad range of pupil needs. We aim to support pupils to develop the skills they need to acheive their potential, ultimately preparing them for life as an adult and the next stage in their journey. This includes increasing the opportunities our students have of finding quality, paid employment in later life.

In order to support students to achieve their aspirations, careers education at Hill Park School follows a 'Preparation for Adulthood' programme which consists of the following:

1) Vocational Education lessons to support students to identify their skills, interests and talents. This will lead to each pupil developing a 'Vocational Profile' which will be built up throughout KS 3 & 4 and transition with them onto the next stage in their journey.

2) Development of key skills to prepare for adulthood, increasing independency and self-awareness. This is completed through the 'Skills Ladder' programme.

3) Meaningful encounters with employers during Career's Week

4) On site and Off Site Work Experience at local businesses and charities.

5) Visiting careers fairs and events around the city at venues such as The American Express Community Stadium.

6) Support, including from external agencies, with job coaching (including mock interviews) and planning next steps once leaving school.

7) Working in partnership with local colleges to enable planned school to college progression. This is a supported introduction to college with a vocational aspect, supporting learners to mix with students from other schools.

8) Link with Coast to Capital  to provide activities, support and resources for teachers.
